A four-character memory play by Tennessee Williams, The Glass Menagerie premiered in 1944 and catapulted Williams from obscurity to fame. The play features characters based on Williams himself, his melodramatic mother and his mentally delicate sister Rose.

Amanda Wingfield is a faded southern belle who lives in poverty with her restless son, Tom, and her painfully shy daughter, Laura, in St. Louis during the late 1930s. While Tom works in a factory and dreams of becoming a poet, his fragile sister seems unable to find her place.
